Phipps Conservatory Weddings
Phipps Conservatory offers everything an outdoor-loving bride and groom could dream about. There are so many locations for wedding and engagement photos on the property, we could spend our entire weekend just exploring new spots!
Phipps Conservatory Outdoor Garden Weddings
The Phipps Outdoor Garden overlooks the University of Pittsburgh (perfect for PITT grads!), and is a welcoming place to have your wedding ceremony. The semi-circular space for Phipps wedding ceremonies is perfect, especially in those beautiful summer and autumn months in Pittsburgh! The bride and groom stand by the fountain, while their guests watch from their white lawn chairs. There are “two” aisles, but the one on the far side is used for the processional and recessional. I have also photographed wedding ceremonies at the outdoor garden with a chuppah! In the case of inclement weather, you can opt to have your ceremony under the outdoor garden tent.
After a ceremony by the fountain, your wedding guests can enjoy a cocktail hour on the lower lawn, where there are two bar setups available. This is also a great time to include lawn games and high tables for your guests to mingle and enjoy themselves.
For your Phipps outdoor garden wedding reception there is a tent also in the outdoor garden area, which can hold numerous guest tables, a DJ, and a dance floor space. This tent lights up very nicely with candles in the evening, and looks lovely with hanging paper lanterns or lights from the ‘ceiling’.
Broderie Room Weddings
For more intimate weddings, Phipps Conservatory offers the Broderie Room, with seating for ~30 people, and an intimate wedding ceremony backdrop. This space is very popular for our elopement and small wedding clients, and has gorgeous scenery included. The background of the Broderie Room changes based on the seasonal show at Phipps Conservatory. Follow up your ceremony with h’ors dourves and champagne, and take advantage of the beautiful backdrops of the Victoria Room and East Room.
Phipps Special Events Hall Weddings
If you’re looking to really party, the Special Events Hall and Tropical Rainforest Room are a wonderful party-location, with the ability to bring in lots of creative decor. A wedding ceremony can take place on the back patio of the Tropical Rainforest, with a large waterfall in the background and views of Oakland and Phipps Conservatory gardens. After your wedding ceremony, your guests can enjoy cocktail hour on the Special Events Hall patio, and enjoy the scenery of the new Center for Sustainable Landscapes.
The Special Events Hall at Phipps Conservatory is a great ‘blank slate’ to bring in all of the wedding decor that you love! Uplighting, flowers, rentals – you name it! You can make this space have the look and feel that you love, while also enjoying the Phipps Conservatory greenery in the attached Tropical Rainforest Room. I have often seen the Tropical Rainforest room as a space for an escort table and cookie table, and the main reception events in the Special Events Hall.
Wedding Photos at Phipps Conservatory
Wondering where to take wedding photos at Phipps Conservatory? There are so many options! If you’re not holding an event there, you are a bit more limited, but the front gardens are open to the public, as well as the outdoor gardens along Panther Hollow Road. If your event takes place in the Outdoor Garden, this space is available to you as well. There are beautiful rod iron gates in front of the side of Phipps Conservatory, which we love to use in our wedding photos.
Indoors, the staff at Phipps has some regulations based on your rental, but the main rooms we love for photos are the Palm Court, the Sunken Garden, Victoria Room, Orchid Room, Dessert Room, and Sepentine Room. All of these locations inside of the Conservatory are beautiful in their own right! Note that photographing sessions inside of the conservatory requires a paid pass. Please contact Phipps Conservatory for more information.
If you’re interested in going a little “off campus” for photos with a Phipps Wedding, Schenley Park is directly across the street as well as the Park Cafe and Panther Hollow Bridge.
We are always honored to photograph weddings at Phipps Conservatory, and through out years of experience at this Pittsburgh Wedding Venue we are still continually amazed by the variety of photographic backdrops and gorgeous scenery.
