Annemarie and Luke were married on September 1st, with a ceremony at the Duquesne Chapel and a reception at Pittsburgh’s Grand Hall at the Priory.
Annemarie and Luke’s Duquesne University Love Story
These two met in 2012 at Duquesne University at a free lunch for Greek Life students with good grades. Luke and his friend Tom were excited about the idea, but Annemarie had to be dragged to the lunch by her friend Corissa—since Annemarie would rather take a nap. Since Luke and Corissa knew each other, the group of friends all had lunch together. When Corissa left for class, Annemarie was left with Luke making awkward small talk until, finally, they both bonded over Annemarie’s infectious, hilarious laugh when the event organizers showed a funny Ellen DeGeneres clip. From that moment on, they started hanging out more until they officially started dating that summer.
An Elegant Duquesne University Ceremony
Since they met at Duquesne, it was important for them to be married at the Duquesne Chapel. Alexis Allen, their wedding coordinator, helped them to set up the clean, elegant look they were going for. It was beautiful without being over-the-top, which was exactly what they were going for.
In addition to the amazing décor, my second shooter, Jenni, and I had the distinct privilege of photographing the kind of genuine emotion that brings tears to your eyes AND makes you laugh. My favorite moment was the first look, because Annemarie was so excited, and that meant we got plenty of fun photos.
Both Annemarie and Luke have large families, so it was important to both of them to have everyone involved from beginning to end. That included a first look with Annemarie’s father—in which he covered his eyes until she was ready and then had a HUGE smile on his face when he finally saw her!
A Romantic Grand Hall at the Priory Wedding
The classic elegance of this Pittsburgh wedding continued at the Grand Hall at the Priory. Annemarie and her father had everyone crying during their father/daughter dance. They danced to “Butterfly Kisses,” and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Even one of my past grooms, who was there for the wedding, was also tearing up!
I also liked that Annemarie and Luke didn’t have a maid of honor or best man. Instead, they had their whole families involved. They even had their brothers and sisters give speeches during the reception. That’s a great way to make sure everyone gets to have a part in the day!
Luke & Annemarie, thank you for asking me to be your wedding photographer and for sharing your love story with me! Thanks also to Alexis Allen of Shayla Hawkins Events for putting together a stellar wedding atmosphere for these two amazing people!
