Kristin and Steve were married on July 21st, with a ceremony and reception at Riverfront Weddings located in the Pittsburgh Apsinwall Riverfront Park.
Believe it or not, these two met in the wedding business! Steve worked for All Occasions for over 17 years, and Kristin has been there for 13. Steve now runs operations for Marbella Event Furniture and Décor and Kristin helps with the décor and product line. It’s always a pleasure to do the wedding photography for someone in the business, because I know those of us who work in weddings for a living are picky. So, for Kristin and Steve to let me do their wedding photography is a big show of trust that I don’t take lightly.
Steve proposed to Kristin when they were in Aruba with Kristin’s parents and cousins. Of course, there was a bit of a wrinkle in his plans when he asked her to help him make the reservation for a private cabana dinner. She asked him if he was going to propose there, but he denied it. She stopped thinking about it after that denial—so he was still able to surprise her when he did pop the question!
Steve and Kristin’s Gorgeous Riverfront Wedding
Since Steve and Kristin both spend so much time working on weddings, they poured plenty of thought and attention into the details, including the choice of venue. Since Kristin is a city girl and Steven is a country boy, they wanted something that would complement their personalities—so they wanted something more special than a hotel ballroom. They opted instead for the marina, since they love to spend time together on their boat and love the feeling of the open air and flexibility.
It was a bit of a risky location, since it was outdoors on the Allegheny River in the middle of summer, but the weather was lovely: a nice 72 degrees, partly cloudy, and simply divine. It was a little cramped, but we fit everything into those 7 hours, and Kristin and Steve were able to get a beautiful ceremony out on the dock.
Dramatic Wedding Details
Kristin also wanted to do something different from all the other weddings that she’s worked on, which is why she opted for a darker, more dramatic floral décor. Their friends at All Occasions Party Rental and Marbella Event Furniture and Branding absolutely knocked the look out of the park. They were a huge part of the wedding and also a big part of Kristin and Steve’s lives, so I can’t say enough nice things about the job they did!
In fact, one of the neatest details about this wedding was the custom printing everywhere. Whitney Kevech, the creative director for Marbella Event Furniture and Décor, did an amazing job with the aisle runners and printed table tops, though it was her custom printed dance floor that had everyone talking. Kristin’s unique, modern vision came to life with the metallic and acrylic tables as well and other details that made everything feel so sleek.
I loved working with the entire wedding team. We all felt so at home and welcome the entire day; it never felt like we were “hired help” at all. And we all really wanted to do an outstanding job for our “friendors”!
Thank you, Steve & Kristin, for trusting me with your wedding photography. It was so fun to spend the day with fellow wedding professionals—and seeing just what an amazingly executed vision looks like!
