Katlyn and Taylor were married on June 30th, with a ceremony at the Heinz Memorial Chapel and a reception at the Omni William Penn Hotel.
Since there was going to be a long break between the ceremony and the reception, my second shooter, Alisa, and I didn’t do “getting ready” coverage. Instead, we jumped right into covering the ceremony itself, which was officiated by Taylor’s brother at the Heinz Chapel.
Katlyn and Taylor’s University of Pittsburgh Love Story
Both Katlyn and Taylor went to PITT (University of Pittsburgh), so it was important to them that they get married on campus—and that we spend plenty of time hanging out there as well! Since it was incredibly hot right around noon, we found a shady spot on campus and worked with the bridal party near the Cathedral of Learning. We also visited the popular local college bar Hemingway’s for drinks with the bridal party and then went to the Station Square area of Pittsburgh. Taylor and Katlyn had really wanted to spend the time between the ceremony and the reception with their friends and family, and they made the most of the break—including getting pizza at the hotel!
I loved having all this time to spend with the wedding party, because it also gave me plenty of time to get pictures. I’m particularly proud of the picture of Katlyn and Taylor on the Smithfield Street Bridge where I was able to capture her dress moving as she twirled. And the picture of the two of them on the outside stairs of the Heinz Chapel reminded me of my own wedding there 10 years ago!
A Romantic Omni William Penn Hotel Wedding
After the long break, the wedding guests were able to enjoy a cocktail hour in the Urban Room, where a cookie table was set up with plenty of amazing selections. But even though there were so many delicious cookies to choose from, Taylor’s father still brought a box of Oreos and shared them with Katlyn. Apparently, they both love Oreos too much not to have them there!
The reception in the Omni William Penn’s Grand Ballroom was filled with love and laughter, but the best part, hands down, was the best man speech. Since Taylor’s brother is a weather man, he packed his speech with plenty of weather-related puns, like “it’s going to be a sunny marriage” and “there’s blue skies ahead” and such. It was hilarious!
Taylor & Katlyn, thank you for letting me be part of all the fun of your Pittsburgh wedding! It was a blast spending time with you—and eating some amazing cookies.
