Anna and Chris were married on May 26th, with a ceremony and reception at The Pennsylvanian. This was a destination wedding for the couple and many of their friends, since they currently live in Texas. The Pennsylvanian is a stunning Pittsburgh wedding venue, so it was a perfect choice for their reception.
These two met in 2011 during their senior year of college when Chris came out to the University of Arizona to visit some friends. Although Chris had moved to Texas for work after he graduated, the two of them kept in touch, talking online and visiting on weekends. Finally, after five years of adventure together, they decided to explore the coast of Maine. They were still in high spirits after seeing Big Papi and the Red Sox at an exciting baseball game before they drove up from Boston to Portland. Chris took the opportunity propose on a cliff overlooking the Portland headlight. Then, they shared a lobster-catching tour and a romantic candlelit dinner. What a perfect New England proposal!
The Pennsylvanian Pittsburgh Wedding Photography
On the day of the wedding, I started out at the Westin Hotel with Anna. Once it was time to walk over to The Pennsylvanian, Anna was so laid back about carrying her wedding dress. She practically had it rolled up into a ball! But, she told me, if the dress hadn’t wrinkled on the flight to Pittsburgh, it wasn’t going to wrinkle in the short time it took to walk over to The Pennsylvanian. How can you argue with that logic?
The ceremony itself was held at The Pennsylvanian under the rotunda. There was a nice, gentle breeze blowing. It was a sign of impending rain, but still, we enjoyed it while we could!
Built in the 1900s, The Pennsylvanian is lauded as one of Pittsburgh’s most architecturally significant buildings. The Grand Hall was particularly magnificent as a backdrop for Anna and Chris’s first dance together. The grand location with its soaring vaulted ceilings and ornate carvings made that dance look like a scene out of a fairy tale. It was a spectacular event to watch!
Since Anna and Chris are Italian, they wanted their wedding to evoke the feeling of an Italian dinner party. The beautiful backdrop of The Pennsylvanian’s historic beauty, combined with the Italian-styled décor brought their wedding dream to life. They had fresh lemons and grapes, with plenty of greenery and olive branches! Anna’s aunt even hand-painted the olive branch tags for the take-home gifts. The beautiful terra cotta archways and hand-laid brick flooring of The Pennsylvanian made it the perfect location for their Italian themed wedding ceremony and reception.
One of my favorite images was of Anna and Chris smiling and walking together under the lights of The Pennsylvanian. Not only is it a beautiful picture of them, but I am also very proud of how we were able to finagle that image out of the setup around them. We had to shoot under this space because cocktail hour was also at the rotunda and it was raining, so everyone was squished in together—including the huge catering setup! But I was able to angle the photo so that you only see these two lovebirds, as it should be.
Anna & Chris, thank you for asking me to be your Pittsburgh wedding photographer. It was an honor to be a part of your day! I loved seeing The Pennsylvanian take on an Italian wedding flare for the two of you!
