Caitlan and Jarek were married on May 19th, with a ceremony at St. Peter Parish and a reception at the Omni William Penn Hotel.
Caitlan and Jarek’s Love Story
These two met at Quigley Catholic High School, where they were best friends for three years before finally deciding to date at the end of their senior year. They have been together ever since, even though they’ve had to make things work as a trans-national relationship. Jarek went to college at Texas A&M, while Caitlan went to the University of America in Washington, D.C., and then later at Columbia in New York City. They Skyped all the time, including while he was doing summer study abroad trips to Indonesia and Israel and when she went to Oxford University for a semester! Still, all that traveling meant that they were able to come together to see places they never would have gone otherwise and to see the world together.
A Spring Omni William Penn Hotel Wedding
Now, they were finally ready to tie the knot, and from the very first photos I took of the two of them, I could see their excitement and love bleeding into the images. Every time I caught them smiling at each other, I knew they had it made together.
But they shared that love for more than just each other. These two people have such a strong connection to their families that I had to document it. Jarek kept a family photo in his suit, and when we were doing family photos, he took out that photograph so that he could show it to his grandmother when they were taking pictures together. His grandmother—and the whole family—couldn’t help but be touched.
And then there was Caitlan, who shared a pinkie promise and high fives with her mom as she was getting ready. It was so obvious that her mom adores her girls. And I have to say, Caitlan’s parents gave me the most amazing greeting when I arrived, too. They were so welcoming and happy that I was there, which makes me really love my job!
Caitlan’s father gave a great speech welcoming Jarek into the family. He said that their family motto had always been “POF” (Power of Four), but that hasn’t changed—now it’s Power of Five!
Of course, every wedding has a few snags, and for us, it was the weather. It was REALLY RAINY during the ceremony, which was a shame, because Caitlan wanted to go outside for photos. But just as we would have gone to do portraits, the weather cleared right up. I watched, amazed, through the back doors of the church as we had our own little wedding day miracle.
I think the images we were able to capture turned out wonderfully. I especially love the full photo of the church with the banners hanging down. They weren’t that big in person, but this photo makes the whole church look huge and regal! And that fit with Jarek’s look—he’s in the military, and he was beyond excited to wear his saber, since they don’t get to use it often.
Thank you, Caitlan & Jarek, for making me feel so welcome at your wedding. I loved being your wedding photographer!
