Jamie and Bret were married on May 5th, with a ceremony at the St. Paul Episcopal Church in Mt. Lebanon and a Rivers Casino wedding reception.
Although technically, Bret and Jamie had already been married last summer at the courthouse, they wanted to have a big wedding of their dreams to celebrate with their family and friends. So, my second photographer, Bryan, and I headed to the Marriott Hotel on Pittsburgh’s North Shore to start the day with some getting-ready pictures ahead of the sentimental, symbolic ceremony at the church. They didn’t exchange rings, but they did tie their hands together—an outward show of the commitment they had already made to each other.
Jamie and Bret’s Spring Wedding at Rivers Casino
One of the most memorable things about this wedding was how many children were there, including Bret and Jamie’s beautiful daughter, Avery. Sweet Avery was born in December and is a HUGE part of their lives now. They were excited to celebrate the wedding as a family of three and made sure to include Avery during the day. Later, they put her to bed to spend the rest of the night celebrating with friends and family at the Rivers Casino.
There were also plenty of other kids, and though not all of them were happy to be there, Bret and Jamie made it through and even gave the kids a chance to shine. I’ll never forget the pile of little ones wheeled down the aisle in a wagon. They were precious! Some of them were howling in portraits later, but even still, they were cute! Jamie and Bret smiled through it all!
The best part of the wedding for me, as a wedding photographer, was the gorgeous location. This wedding was in the middle of spring, when all the trees were just starting to show off their spring blossoms. The way that spring spreads out across the branches is simply magical, with the pinks and greens at their most vibrant. We did portraits at the nearby Bird Park in Mt. Lebanon, where I absolutely fell in love with the blossoms. Those are my favorite images of the whole day! Since Jamie’s wedding colors were varying shades of eggplant and purple, the bright blooms perfectly complemented the florals and gowns.
We also got some fun bridal party pictures on the North Shore, with a view of the downtown Pittsburgh skyline—another excellent backdrop. And once we headed to the Rivers Casino, where lots of people were celebrating the Kentucky Derby as well, everyone had the chance to let loose.
Bret & Jamie, thank you for asking me to be your wedding photographer. And thanks especially for giving me the chance to photograph some of my favorite springtime blossoms while we did portraits. I love spring weddings!
Rivers Casino Wedding Reception
Jamie and Bret’s reception at the Rivers Casino was one of the first times that I photographed a wedding reception in their ballroom space. The room was really large, and gave a great view of both downtown Pittsburgh at one end, and the Ohio River on the other side. Their band, In Transit, had plenty of space to setup with the stage area, and the guest’s tables were spread out with plenty of room for people to walk through.
One of the most impressive parts of the reception setup was the cookie table, which was meticulously setup at the far end of the room while cocktail hour took place outside of the room in another spacious area for wedding guests. I loved the purple up-lights that Jamie added to the space, as up-lights always add a little something extra to a reception space.
