Juliana and Dan were married on April 21st, with a ceremony at the St. Paul Cathedral and a reception at the Oakmont Country Club.
Dan and Juliana (Jules to her friends) met after Dan’s cousin set them up at a high school dance. It was the second semester of their senior year of high school, when Dan was attending Central Catholic (all boys) and Jules was attending Oakland Catholic (all girls). They hit it off right from the start at the dance, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Since I had already photographed Jules’ sister’s wedding in 2016, when I arrived to this wedding, it felt like a family reunion. Their parents are wonderful people and even took the time to congratulate me on the recent birth of my son. It’s always a joy to spend time with families I know and to see them grow. I especially love when I get to photograph multiple weddings for the same family!
Dan’s family didn’t disappoint either. His parents were a delightful couple, and his twin brother was hilarious in his speech (even though I had no idea they were twins!).
A Ceremony at the St. Paul Cathedral
I started out the wedding day with Jules and the girls, while my second shooter, Christina, met up with the guys at the church. I was especially impressed with the fact that Jules’ dress had pockets! Every girl I know is jealous of a dress like that.
Even though I started out with the girls, once we got to the church, the person who caught my eye was actually Dan’s father—sitting in the back room of the church. He was very quiet and trying to blend in, but when I saw the look on his face, I couldn’t help being touched. He was beaming with pride as he looked at the gorgeous girl who would soon become his daughter-in-law. He just looked so content!
The beautiful ceremony itself was presided over by Bishop David Zubik of Pittsburgh, who actually baptized Dan. That’s really something special here in the city! He even presented the bride and groom with a note all the way from the Vatican.
A Stunning Oakmont Country Club Reception
After the ceremony, we made our way to the reception at the Oakmont Country Club. Weddings at the Oakmont Country Club are simply fantastic. This venue is stunning, from its breathtaking outdoor scenery to the grandeur of its ballroom. We photographed all of the portraits at the country club after the ceremony, and I can’t say enough about how magnificent this venue is! This Oakmont Country Club hosts the US Open, so needless to say, the golf course is spectacular. In fact, one of my favorite images was of Jules and Dan walking hand-in-hand on the golf course. As a wedding venue, the Oakmont Country Club provides a rich and traditional backdrop with its handsome country club interior pairing with the lush and expansive outdoor spaces. Jules had wanted to get married at the Oakmont ever since she was a little girl. I love how her dream wedding at this historic venue was realized.
During the reception, in the well-appointed ballroom, there was a sweet moment when Jules was dancing with her father. This was his “last daughter” to give away, and it was really something else to see the emotion on his face during that moment! I was able to get a picture of Jules and her father embracing, which echoed a similar picture I captured at her sister’s wedding. I liked how these images aligned to tell a story of their family, a tradition that carried on.
Dan & Juliana, thank you for asking me to be part of your day. I loved seeing your family again and getting wrapped up in the excitement along with everyone else!
