I met up with Sam and Steve on September 29th at Mellon Park for an engagement session in the rain.
A Rainy Mellon Park Engagement Session
In the middle of the session, the skies opened up and poured rain on us, so we took shelter underneath a big tree. There really wasn’t anywhere else to go to avoid the rain! But despite how wet it was and how bad the weather got, we ended up honestly enjoying ourselves as we chatted together, waiting for the storm to pass us by. Or at the very least, let up enough that we could get some good pictures in the rain. I got to hear their story and really see their personalities shine, which I loved.
Sam and Steve are so easy to get along with and talk to. They both have great senses of humor, and they’re incredibly laid back. They told me about how they love to relax together and watch their favorite TV shows. I got to hear a little more about their love story too, starting from when they met while Sam was at Duquesne University.
Even though it was so rainy during the session—I had to shoot at ISO 5000 for the natural light—we got some incredible images out of the day. Not that I’m surprised; when I have a great couple like this, they make great photos. That’s just how my job works.
In particular, I love the photo of Steve standing behind Sam and kissing her as her hair flips. It’s candid and honest, and I love the movement to it. You can tell they’re really in love.
Steve & Sam, thank you for asking me to be your engagement photographer and for braving the weather to hang out with me. I loved getting to know you both!
If you’re looking for an engagement session location, I would highly recommend using Mellon Park. It’s a common venue for me for my sessions; take a look!
