Small Outdoor Wedding Ceremony Locations in Pittsburgh
I photograph lots of big, beautiful weddings here in the Pittsburgh area, but I also photograph lots of intimate weddings as well! There is nothing like bringing together a small, select group of people on your wedding day to celebrate in a “less than 50” fashion!
I am currently working with a couple who has found the perfect wedding reception restaurant for their small wedding, but they are struggling a bit with the perfect outdoor wedding ceremony location for their intimate event. I put my feelers out there a bit, and gathered a list of some perfect places recommended by Pittsburgh wedding photographers for a small, intimate outdoor wedding ceremony. Here are some of our favorites:
Pittsburgh Small Wedding Ceremony Spaces
These locations are in the Greater Pittsburgh area!
Phipps Conservatory and Botanic Gardens
Phipps has two ideal locations for intimate weddings and elopements – the outdoor garden and the Broderie Room. Both spaces are absolutely gorgeous, and can suit the needs of a small wedding ceremony. The outdoor garden overlooks the University of Pittsburgh, and has gorgeous outdoor scenery in the spring through fall time. The Broderie Room is perfection year-round, but holds a slightly smaller guest count. Both of these Phipps locations are wonderful options!
Mellon Park Greens
Mellon Park is one of my favorite locations to photograph my couples, since the scenery and light is absolutely gorgeous! This park is located right off of Fifth Avenue in the Squirrel Hill area of the city, and has a large green space for a wedding ceremony. The stone walls and iron gates add to the perfect “old Pittsburgh garden” feel, and you won’t need to go anywhere for additional photos – Mellon Park is the perfect place for your small ceremony and photography!
This location is incredibly adorable, and perfect for a couple who is looking for something different, but still in the Pittsburgh central region. The space is farmhouse chic, and has a lovely, stone-walled backyard for intimate wedding ceremonies. if all else fails, you can move indoors at this venue as well for an equally adorable backdrop.
Morning Glory Inn
Hung-lanterns? City streets? Bed & Breakfast vibe? Morning Glory Inn may be the perfect venue for your small wedding in the Pittsburgh area. The back patio area is perfect for a small seated ceremony or standing-room-only private event. Gather everyone together in a space that is lined with cobblestone pavers and has an incredibly romantic feel in the heart of Pittsburgh’s South Side.
PITT Grad? Schenley Plaza may be the perfect location for your outdoor wedding ceremony in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. Surrounded by numerous libraries and the Cathedral of Learning, you can get married at a location with a beautiful, open lawn, and lots of nearby restaurants and attractions for your wedding guests.
Mt. Washington Overlook
Want to celebrate everything Pittsburgh? Why not hold your wedding ceremony on the Mt. Washington overlook? There are numerous overlooks on Grandview avenue, and they all will hold up to ~30 people for an intimate event or elopement. The downtown Pittsburgh city skyline will add to the ultimate Pittsburgh vibe for your wedding day!
Other Pittsburgh Wedding Ceremony and Elopement Locations
Are you able to adventure a bit further outside of the Greater Pittsburgh area? These venues are also popular options!
When I photographed a wedding at Succop Conservancy, I was really drawn to the adorable house on the property. It’s whitewashed style with old, iron decor is a wonderful backdrop for your wedding photos. You can host both your wedding ceremony and reception at this venue, and the Conservancy has an abundance of wedding photo spots! Get married under the pergola with simple white chairs for your guests, and enjoy all that nature has to offer at this ceremony venue.
Looking for an incredibly unique space? Choderwood is the ceremony venue for you. It is set along the Allegheny River, and features intimate gardens, ponds, and even a tree house overlooking the river! Choderwood is incredibly unique, intimate and speaks to the creative-at-heart. This wedding ceremony (and small reception) venue is the top of the list for a bride looking for a different style of space.
You may be having a small, intimate wedding ceremony, but that’s no reason to sacrifice class and style. Having the mansion at Hartwood Acres as the backdrop for your wedding photos ensures that your wedding ceremony is set in classic style in an outdoor setting. The grounds around the mansion are equally as beautiful, with a small garden, iron gates, and beautiful forest greenery.
Robin Hill Park
Another classic backdrop, Robin Hill is a wonderful option for a wedding ceremony in the Moon Township area of Pittsburgh. The park also features some beautiful scenery and a lovely mansion. Walk on the trails near the mansion for a few wedding photos, and enjoy a small wedding reception inside of the mansion with your closest family and friends.
All of these venues are perfect for a small, intimate wedding ceremony or elopement, and I hope that this list will ease the burden of finding the perfect wedding ceremony location for future brides and grooms!
