Ever wonder what goes through the mind of a girl before, during, and after a boudoir session? Here’s a really informative interview with one of my to-be-brides! I’m not going to reveal the name, simply because the session is a surprise and I don’t want to give it away. Let’s just say that she’s a hottie!![]()
What made you decide to do a boudoir session? I have some friends that have tried it and was very intrigued and curious. I did a little bit of modeling when I was younger, and always was really nervous, then would open up a bit and have fun with it. I have always felt so proud of myself when I do something that pushes me out of my comfort limits. To me, this was a chance to say, “Yeah, I did that, and it was fun!”
What made you choose me to shoot your boudoir session? Lee is my wedding photographer and has also become a great friend. My fiance and I chose Lee due to her passion for photography, her professionalism and confidence in her work product, and her outgoing, fun nature. When I saw my engagement shots that she took, I was blown away! She made the day so easy and fun, and the pictures captured so many components we were looking for. I knew that if she could make us look that good in our engagement shoot, in daylight, with clothes on…that I had utmost confidence in her expertise to make me look good in some soft, romantic lighting, showing a little bit of skin.
Plus, I knew she would stay professional and help keep me at ease.
Were you nervous about anything going into it? I was, who wouldn’t be a little bit?! A few days before, Lee sent me a nice, calming email asking if I had any questions, and gave me some great pointers on what to wear and what additional makeup applications I might want to think about (eyelashes!) One of her recommendations was a little bit of chapagne or wine, which, I’ll admit, I utilized in the first 5 minutes. We started with a “more covered” outfit, which made things easier, and after a few shots, my nervousness vanished!
A huge difference I noted from the modeling I did when younger and the times I’ve been with Lee and her camera was the level of nervousness. The photographer from my youth was not very good at expressing ideas or poses, and it always felt awkward. Lee has a knack for communicating ideas easily as well as reinforcing that what you are doing looks great! I felt so comfortable and “great-looking” working with her, which diminished my anxiety.
Where you nervous about anything after the session? No, just super excited to see the final product. Lee was excited about the shoot, which made me eager to see what she had captured!
How did I help during the session? Was there anything that you loved/hated? Lee was very helpful during the shoot. She stayed professional, reassuring, and upbeat during the whole process. When she first walked in, she was immediately scoping out my space; you could see the wheels in her head spinning with her ideas. While I was changing and doing makeup, Lee rearranged furniture and set up lighting. The process was extremely efficient. Lee showed me some pictures of angles or ideas she wanted to try, or posed herself, which helped get the pictures going. If anything, I hated that I didn’t have more awesome outfits.
What did you think of the finished images? The finished images came out better than I had thought! I felt uber sexy, beautiful, and classy. I knew immediately that my fiance would be “wowed,” and I can’t wait to suprise him with the album Lee helped me create.
Do you like your album? Why? Why not? Lee showed me a sample of an album, which I loved. She then took the pics that I had chosen as my favorites, and arranged them into a .pdf which I could view right in my email. I would have never imagined how easy she made it for me to create an album, and she took care of all the ordering for me. When it finally came in, I was amazed at the quality!
What will your fiance think of the finished images? I am positive he will love them! And, of course they are for him, but I also did this for myself, too. This was such a strong, confidence-boosting experience, something that I’m proud I did when my body is in such great shape, and before marriage. I think it will be beautiful to take pregnancy pictures, and even pictures when I’m older as well, as my body changes and transforms.
What would you tell other women considering this type of photo shoot? I would recommend this pampering/exploring/self-understanding process to any woman! I love my body, but am by no means 100% confident in my body all the time. This opportunity helped me to open up, to do something risky for myself, and to push myself to try something new and provocative. I dropped all insecurities at the door, took in the entire experience as much as I could, and just had fun. I felt most proud of my moment at the end when I was the one suggesting a pose to Lee! And, thanks to Lee’s professionalism, attention to detail, and ease at communicating the not-so-comfortable things, I would recommend her to anyone with any type of anxiety but curiosity to try this type of photoshoot.
Thanks, love, for the feedback! Truly appreciated.
And his jaw is going to drop.
xoxo
Leeann
